My virtual Art Gallery

Art is my passion! Please browse through my art site and any constructive comments will be greatly appreciated.

I hope you enjoy what you see!

Many thanks, Sandi

I started Art in 2009 rather later in life than most, and it has now become my passion. I am an active member with Drawing-Tutorials-Online.com. My Tutor is Matthew Archambault who I cannot praise enough!  He is an enormous inspiration to me and to him I must give all credit  for continuing my art, to practice every day, and produce better and better drawings. I am also an active member of Painting-Tutorials-Online.com also tutored by Matthew Archambault. He is a real all round traditional artist with an open mind.  His teaching way is wonderful. Even after posting my worst artwork for critique he never makes you feel worthless or throw it back at you (metaphorically speaking of course!) but instead starts his teaching at your level ,may that be your very first pencil on paper, or paint on canvas, he treats you with respect and encouragement.  He shows you where to go to improve and points out what you don’t want to continue to do, but with encouragement.  I highly recommend both these sites to anyone, whatever level. We have some amazing artists in our community who also help by passing on their knowledge. I have learnt a lot and made so many lovely friends.

I have been with both sites since their first year and have watched them grow into amazingly brilliant tutoring sites.  I never drew or painted before that!  I would go so far as to say they ARE the best you will find on the internet.

I love my art now, it is my life.  I started this site so that others may find it interesting or even inspiring as you watch my progress if you too are just starting out. I hope you enjoy my art and please leave comments and help build a friendly community

Art for MS

Last year (2011) I took part in my first art exhibition.  It was extremely exciting, and to see my work hanging up next to so many great artists was a real inspirational experience.  It was called Art for MS a cause close to my heart.

The exhibition was displayed at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital partly to prove to people who after the diagnosis of a Chronic lifelong debilitating illness there is still room to be productive in life and bring happiness to others and partly to raise awareness of MS.

MS and the research thereof is extremely important. Out of approximately 65 million population in the UK 100,000 have MS. Therefore it doesn’t generate much publicity and so doesn’t attract a lot of funding.

If you are an active person anyway why not choose MS as one of your charities to support.  it would be very much appreciated.

It was an extremely successful exhibition. Above is a link to a website set up to continue to showcase the talents of artists affected by MS in the Southwest of England. If, having toured the gallery, you would like to contact any of the featured artists, please visit the contact page. You can also email Art for MS from the contact page.

Thank you in advance for taking time to visit the Art for MS site.

  1. You have been nominated for a Liebster Award!

    • I had a really tough week last week unfortunately had a short stay in hospital, however i woke up in my own bed on Saturday morning to discover that Monica had nominated me for a Liebster Award who has a lovely blog called Monica Wants to Draw. It made me smile and warmed my heart that I had even been thought of so thank you so much Monica.

I don’t know how the Liebster Award started. But it is a recognition and appreciation of blogs of small audiences by another blogger. Kind of like celebrating that mom and pop shop you like so much, that make you feel so at home. Or that lovely bakery round the village corner that you miss so much when you move to the big city.

Nothing big. No fancy stuff. Just celebrating simple, ordinary things we like. But simple and ordinary things made beautiful and special because each blogger had spoke with a true voice. And because of that, we feel we share something. And there is an affirmation of our common humanity.

“Better to write for yourself and have no public, than to write for the public and have no self.” (Cyril Connolly)

As we write, draw and publish, we try to remember to be true to ourselves. Despite having only a small audience. Or having no audience. Even if we have just one person reading, we know that audience is true. Only thus, can our work bring us closer to ourselves.

“All you have to do is write one true sentence. Write the truest sentence you know.” (Ernest Hemingway)”

And I celebrate by naming 5 other blogs I enjoy for the Liebster Award:

      Monica Wants To Draw

      Learning to draw from zero

      About

Hi! I am Monica and I am learning to draw from zero experience.

On my list of “things to do before I die” is to learn how to draw and paint. (Do you have such a list? You should!) So I thought I may as well get on with it.

I am 100% novice but decided to start this blog anyway to journal my learning progress and discoveries. Someone once said that the woods would be very silent if no birds sang except those that sang best. So I am adding my twitter to the cacophony just to have some fun. And if Van Gogh can, maybe so can I!

      About

My name is Anne and I’am living in Denmark.

I’am thrilled by working with ink washes. You can control it, but only to a certain point, then you just have to let it go. Sometimes that is how life can be too..

I love simplicity and working fast, which shows in my ink work.

I have just entered the world of painting with acrylics. I’am going to share this journey with you.

      A Motivational Interlude

I’ll get back to posting drawings shortly, but I had read this article a while back and thought I would share it. Just speaking for myself, I find it very intimidating to share my art (note: the term art is used very loosely here) and as a result it makes me very self-conscious when I know others are looking at my work. There are many things that give me the confidence to make this blog and share my work now (not the least of which is the inherent anonymity that comes with posting on the internet) and one of those things is what I took from this article written by Roger Ebert. Enjoy.

You can draw, and probably better than I can

They say that blood is thicker than water… I suppose to a point they are right. But… I think that its not always the case. I’ve been blessed enough to have such great friends in my life that they are no longer friends, but rather my family.
